Training and development

Giving you the support you need.

Graduates and Interns on any of our programmes can expect a wealth of industry-leading training, coaching and development opportunities. This is one major factor behind graduates voting Fidelity the 2nd ‘Best Graduate Employer (Banking and Finance)’ in 2016’s TheJobCrowd awards.

The same also applies to students joining us as interns or on other work placements or insight programmes – something backed up by intern feedback, as a result of which we were named ‘best medium sized place for interns to work’ 2014-15, by Rate My Placement.

Graduates

Before the programme

During the programme

After the programme

You’re part of the Fidelity International community the moment you accept our offer. Before you start, we’ll put you in touch with your fellow year-group graduates and your Fidelity buddy. As your start date approaches, you’ll be invited to attend a couple of introductory welcome events and meet your peers, programme sponsor and manager.

Your first three of five weeks, depending on the scheme, will be a global graduate orientation designed to help you with the initial learning curve. The first week will introduce you to Fidelity’s internal structure, department functions, and the markets we operate in and you’ll learn some important soft skills. You will then undertake some external training, culminating in you taking the Investment Operations Certificate (IOC), an industry recognised, essential qualification for our business to gain a good knowledge base, before returning in-house for further training in your area.

INDUCTION AND ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES

Your first three of five weeks, depending on the scheme, will be a global graduate orientation designed to help you with the initial learning curve. QUARTERLY EVENTS

Four times each year, all graduates get together for business updates and networking opportunities. It’s a chance to meet other graduates, as well as senior management, to hear about new initiatives and to understand areas of the business you may not have been exposed to.

SOFT SKILLS SESSIONS

As well as technical skills and know-how, we also provide essential training and advice – from personal and professional branding to presentation skills. Techniques include ways to run effective meetings and maximising your research abilities, project management, agile working,  interviewing skills and creative strategic thinking. You will also gain access to Harvard ManageMentor, an online development resource designed for all employees.

SUPPORT NETWORK

There’s a lot to learn, so a wide support network is required. You will be given a business sponsor who sets the objectives of the programme and oversees the rotation plans, mentors who will help you network and give independent careers advice, and a dedicated buddy from the current graduate class who is on you programme. We also operate an open door policy within HR – a vital source of on-going support and careers guidance.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications we support include the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Investment Management Certificate (IMC) and Investment Operations Certificate (IOC), along with business area-specific qualifications such as the Chartered Institute of personnel and Development (CIPD), PRINCE2 or SQL and relevant marketing and technical certifications amongst others. Depending on the programme you join, you should expect to reach the first level of the CFA or IMC qualifications within or soon after the end of your first year.

We believe in continuous professional development for our people, driven by our people. In the future, we’ll encourage you to take charge of your own career and training, supported by valuable HR tools like online appraisals and personal development frameworks.

Interns

Graduates and Interns on any of our programmes can expect a wealth of industry-leading training, coaching and development opportunities. This is one major factor behind graduates voting Fidelity one of the top three ‘best graduate employers (banking and finance)’ in this year’s Job Crowd awards.
